D-3, 21/03/08

After discussion among the members together with our guide Richard on yesterday night, all of us decided to do a day trip climbing Batu Lawi and expect to reach camp one at night. As our guide informed us that the Pondok camp II condition was not that good to camp there.

Woke-up at 6.30am and had breakfast maggie mee at Pondok Camp I. At 9.40am, depart from Pondok Camp I walk along the logging trail up and down (2 hrs) with scenery view of Mt. Murud and Batu Lawi before connect back to old trail crossing few sream before reach Pondok Camp II site at 12.45pm.

After lunch at 1.30pm from Pondok Camp II ascend climbing up all the way up to Batu Lawi summit with rain and slippery trail but we're lucky as we reach summit, the sky was clear for us to enjoy fantastic scenery view at the peak at 3.00pm.

On the way down start raining again which take less than hour to reach Pondok Camp II for short break before continue crossing flooded river which was quite dangerous...

Free & easy explore Penan Shelters, Bario Park, SMK Bario School and surrounding Bario paddy field. Overnight stayed at Bariew Backpacker Lodge & Homestay.

Note:

We have modern Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Twin Tower, nice comfort place to stay but it was sad to see Penan peoples live in this kind of condition and being force out of jungle by logging activity.

We started at 9.45am from Kg.Orang Asli Pertak together with Hash, ABM, MNS and Kaki Trekkers gp, instead of using 3 hrs to reach summit but used the wrong trail and hard way to G.Kutu. We're lucky to had Botak Chin to lead the way, climbing steep uphill along the ridge and manage to find the old trail to summit at 3.15pm. By the time we reach G.Kutu summit at 4.05pm, Peter Lau from Yuan Circle gp leader (used different trail) already enjoy cold shower bath at summit.

At445pm, descent down from summit using old trail and reach Kg.Pertak at 7.00pm.
